A Lot Going On

Ok. It’s been a while since my last posting but understand that there has been a lot going on lately. We finished up our parenting class last week with a tour of the maternity ward. All I can say is that St. Vincent’s maternity ward looks like a really nice Hilton. It looks nothing like a hospital. They have any and all hospital equipment hidden, all floors are carpeted including the hallway, and the suites all have hardwood floors with really nice furniture. All I can say is that taking that tour really got us excited and made us realize how close we really are.
At class, we went over post-pardom care like diaper changes, swaddling (wrapping the baby in a blanket), what to expect as far as poop texture goes, a very brief overview of breast feeding, bathing, and a general overview of what to have when you come home. It doesn’t seem like much but it totally overwhelmed me with all of the things you have to pay attention to and take care to do/not to do.
To add to all of that excitement all of the dads got to put on this thing that simulates you being pregnant which includes a big belly in front, breasts, a strap that goes around your waist that makes you feel like a big person is giving you a really tight hug and a bladder which consisted of a ten pound bag of sand that went under the belly. I wore it for about 20 minutes before I had to take it off. I couldn’t bend over, it hurt to sit down and God forbid I tried to lean back. That bladder felt like someone was sitting on my stomach. I know this doesn’t compare to what the women go through but it was a good peak into the hardships that are included with pregnancy.

We also had our 4-D ultrasound last week. This is something I had been looking forward to since the minute we found out we were pregnant. A 4-D ultrasound is literally a 3-D image of your baby in the womb with the fourth dimension being that you can see that image moving in real time. It is normal to not have great luck with these scans because of the possibility that the baby isn’t in good position for you to see much but Drew was right there. It was awesome. He looked so peaceful just sitting in there. I can’t even explain the feeling. If you want to see the scan you can click here to download the video. It’s a long video but definitely worth the watch.

This weekend is Lindsey’s first baby shower so I’ll post more on that after it’s over. As the father-to-be I haven’t really been included in all of that so I know very little at this point.

Drew is kicking A LOT. His movements get stronger every day and we are now to the point where each day Lindsey’s stomach is a different shape because of how he is laying. It’s really weird but cool at the same time.

I’ll post something next week after the shower is over to let you know how that went and any other updates of things going on.
